Top 25 Relief Pitcher Prospects

Top 25 Relief Pitcher Prospects

Here are the top 25 relief pitcher prospects.  Relivers are often overvalued in fantasy because it’s difficult to predict whether the pitcher will close (ex: Ryan Perry).  This logic does not apply to the top three (Chapman, Scheppers, Sale) becuase they will probably start if they do not close.

1.  Aroldis Chapman—Reds
2.  Chris Sale—White Sox
3.  Tanner Scheppers—Rangers
4.  Kenley Jansen—Dodgers
5.  Craig Kimbrel—Braves
6.  Jordan Walden—Angels
7.  Jeremy Jeffress—Brewers
8.  Brad Boxberger—Reds*
9.  Tim Collins—Royals
10. Diego Moreno—Pirates
11.  Chad Bettis—Rockies*
12.  Cameron Bedrosian—Angels*
13.  Chance Ruffin—Tigers
14.  Dan Cortes—Mariners
15.  Junichi Tazawa—Red Sox*
16.  Josh Fields—Mariners
17.  Wilmer Font—Rangers*
18.  Wynn Pelzer—Orioles
19.  Dan Burawa—Yankees
20.  Scott Mathieson—Phillies
21.  Justin Grimm—Rangers*
22.  Phillipe Aumont—Phillies
23.  Casey Weathers—Rockies
24.  Nick Carr—Mets
25.  Gregory Infante—White Sox

Future Players:  Kyuji Fujikawa (Japan), Vladimir Garcia (Cuba), Kevin Jacob (Georgia Tech)

Note: I edited this list to include several pitchers currently being used as starters who show some potential to be effective relievers.  These pitchers, listed with a *, would not make the top starters list, but they are better picks in fantasy than the players who would otherwise have been listed.   Jake McGee is listed w/ the starters but is a great prospect who should have been listed w/ the relievers.
